ABCs and 123s? Important, yes. But what’s the ONE THING that has the greatest impact on your child's life?

M I N D S E T

MINDSET lies at the core of EMOTIONAL REGULATION,

SELF-ESTEEM, CONFIDENCE

and what we can create in our lives.

This one-of-a-kind program empowers kids who struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety and overwhelming emotions to choose a new mindset, one that makes them feel more in control of their lives, their choices and their emotions.

Enlightened Empowerment helps kids navigate life’s challenges, by providing them with the tools for success so that they can feel more resilient, become leaders of their own lives and experience more joy, happiness, peace and ease.

Using the analogy of an iceberg, we can see that our conscious mind is what is visible above the water, but the subconscious mind, which is much larger, is what lies beneath the surface.

Our Mindset and beliefs about ourselves, both positive and negative, lie deep within the subconscious mind, which controls an estimated 99.4% of our brain function. By harnessing the power of the subconscious mind we can:

Transform limiting beliefs that stop us from fully stepping into our power

Feel confident to make the positive changes we desire

Love ourselves unconditionally

Access our inner wisdom

The subconscious mind
is our SUPERPOWER!

In order to access the subconscious,we have to

get the nervous system regulated first.

That’s what makes this program

completely unique.

The integration of brain science,

different modalities and

relaxation techniques

lay the foundation

for powerful

transformation.

STORYTELLING

The Adventures in Wisdom® program is a proven system that helps kids shift from a mindset of feeling worried, down on themselves, or apathetic to feeling happy, confident and successful. Fun, engaging projects and activities are utilized to reinforce the concepts.

Teaching kids to find the resilience to handle the ups-and-downs of life, to think for themselves and make good decisions, and to go for their dreams and how to make them happen, are tools they can use for their entire lives! Don’t you wish you had learned these things when you were young?

The Go Zen® program doesn’t just relieve symptoms of anxiety, it transforms them into courage, confidence, and resilience. Kids learn exactly how anxiety works and how to control it.

MEDITATION

Meditation has proven to be an extremely effective method for calming anxiety, transforming limiting beliefs, and finding focus. When we meditate we bring the nervous system from a sympathetic state (fight, flight, freeze) to a parasympathetic state (calm and peaceful).

Believe it or not, kids crave calm and LOVE meditating! They are total naturals too. They can effortlessly reach a theta brain wave state. When we reach that state of mind, it’s much easier to make lasting changes in our minds.

EMOTIONAL REGULATION

Mindfulness is a simple yet powerful practice that brings us into the present moment. All fears, worries, anxieties are rooted in the past or the future. When we simply learn to “be” all we focus on it what is happening right now. The worry thoughts, or memories of mistakes all vanish away.

Yoga is a form of mindfulness. When you are carefully balancing in tree pose, you have to be completely present to hold the pose. Yoga can be a playful way to get children engaged in a mindful practice.

Brain Gym® is an educational kinesiology movement technique that helps to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brains, leading to increased ability to focus and regulate emotions and improve cognitive abilities.

ENERGY BALANCE

When kids understand how their brain works, they begin to understand that there is nothing "wrong" with them.  As an example, worry is actually important because it protects us! But sometimes certain parts of the brain become overreactive and that can cause us to feel uncomfortable. Knowing this helps kids feel empowered to make positive changes in their life.

We are only just beginning to understand the immense benefits of breathwork. Recent scientific research shows tremendous positive impacts to the body's autonomic nervous system through breathwork. When we take a mindful, slow breath, our whole energy system recalibrates, calms and synchronizes.

Emotional Freedom Technique (also called Tapping) is a method in which you gently tap on specific acupressure points, regulating the flow of energy through the meridians in the body. This simple and quick practice can take a child from an emotional distress level of a 9 or 10 down to a 2 or 3 in a matter of moments. EFT restores balance to the body’s energy system, which can quickly relieve symptoms connected to a negative experience or an emotion.

LET'S TALK ABOUT
SELF-ESTEEM

Self esteem is defined as the confidence in one's own worth or abilities, and/or self-respect.

Low self-esteem is a thinking disorder in which an individual sees themself as inadequate, unlovable, and/or incompetent. Once low self-esteem takes form, this negative view permeates every thought, producing false assumptions and ongoing self-defeating behavior.

Children with low self-esteem are at risk of developing psychological and social problems, such as depression and anxiety.

They may be more prone to bullying, perform poorly in school and avoid challenges for fear of failing. Low self-esteem makes it hard to maintain friendships and relationships, and may lead to your child avoiding many leisure activities.

Constant self-criticism can lead to persistent feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety, anger, shame or guilt.

In our programs, we teach children how to control their minds so they can quiet and dominate those persistent negative thoughts that lead to low self-esteem.

If you notice your child saying things such as:

"I'm so stupid"

"I never do anything right"

"I'm no good at that"

"I can't"

These are signs that your child is experiencing low self-esteem. As already mentioned, this can quickly lead to problems associated with anxiety and possibly depression in the future.

According to Robin Goodman, PhD, "a girl's self-esteem peaks at age 9, then takes a nosedive." [Source: New York University Child Study Center Web site]

Now is the time. Don't wait until things escalate.

Think of our programs as preventative care for mental and emotional health so things don't spiral out of control, leading to feelings of hopelessness, like so many kids are experiencing these days.

You were guided here because you want more for your child.

Because you care.

Because you know there has to be a solution.

You know there is a better way…for them to navigate these feelings

This is no coincidence that you landed here today.

And I can help.

What does Self-Esteem look like?

  • difficulty expressing needs and desires
  • feel guilty for taking up space

High Self Esteem

  • willing to try new things
  • can express their needs and wants effectively
  • feel comfortable with themselves
  • take responsibility for their actions
  • can ask for help when they need it
  • ability to form healthy relationships
  • have respect for themselves

Karen Kane

Founder and Instructor

Karen is a certified Adventures in WisdomTM life coach for kids and holds a Masters in Teaching. She has been teaching yoga and meditation to children since 2002 and has received several additional certifications in a multitude of modalities, including hypnotherapy and reiki. Nothing sparks up her heart more than when a child finds that beautiful light that resides within them, witnessing their own beauty, peace, and strength.

We LOVED Karen! She is easy to communicate with. My girls really looked forward to spending time with her... they felt very comfortable with her. She taught them self awareness, acceptance, calming strategies, creativity and just overall balance. I wish all kids could work with her!

WHAT KIDS and PARENTS SAY...

"P" an 8-yr old boy...

I was really having a problem with being up stairs alone with my brother. Miss Karen taught me a lot about worries and helped me with not being scared. Now I feel amazing! I think that kids who come here will be happy because they don’t have a lot of worries. She will help you!

Mother of 8-yr old boy...

I approached Karen when my 8 year old son had difficulty with regulating his emotions. He would get extremely anxious and not know how to calm down. During our initial appointment, Karen listened to my concerns and communicated what the program would entail and what the curriculum would address. When we met for our first appointment, I noticed her space was cozy, warm, peaceful, and relaxing. My son came home after the first session excited about what he had learned. According to his school counselor, he ended up teaching his classmates about what he had learned during a social emotional lesson. I love that she teaches about the brain/body connection, and he seemed really in tune with his emotions by the end of the six weeks. My son is now able to identify his anxiety independently and choose a strategy to address it (with my help). Karen made sure to clearly communicate with me regarding how I could support at home and what lessons they worked on. I am looking forward to doing more sessions with Karen, as it was such a great experience for my family.

Frequently Asked Questions & Concerns

Is this the same as counseling or therapy?

Mindset coaching is different from counseling or therapy. It’s about helping kids reach their full potential, looking toward the future, whereas traditional psychotherapy can help kids with serious diagnosed disorders or helping them to process traumatic experiences from their past.

Some of the common things that coaching is excellent for addressing include:

     low self-esteem

     lack of confidence

     anxiety and nervousness

managing mistakes and fear of failure

     being bullied and victim mentality

     experiencing changes

     making poor choices with peers

general lack of motivation and direction

I am afraid this will turn into a perpetual cycle of fees and appointments.

I get it. I am a parent of two kids and I. GET. IT. What you must consider is this….the skills and tools they will learn will last them a lifetime. I know that most parents wouldn't hesitate paying thousands of dollars to get their child braces for proper teeth alignment, creating that beautiful external appearance, but what about investing in your child's internal mental and emotional alignment, which affects everything? Packages are much more affordable than a therapist and start at only $444 for 6 sessions. Group workshops are also available at even more affordable rates. Think about this...what might it cost you if you don’t invest in your child before their teen years?

Being exposed to these concepts can change the entire trajectory of their life.

Imagine this scenario...your daughter is in seventh grade and is faced with making the decision of whether or not to send an inappropriate selfie to her (male) “friend” who is requesting it. She can either listen to the voice in her head that says,

“All my friends have done it, I just want to fit in with everyone.”

“I really like this guy and I want him to like me back.”

“There’s no harm, the picture will immediately delete after he sees it.”

“I trust him, he would never show it to anyone else.” etc.

OR…

she remembers what she was taught in these programs and hears this voice instead…

”I respect myself too much to do this.”

“It feels wrong and I’m going to listen to my inner wise self.”

“If he doesn’t talk to me after this, whatever. I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t respect me.”

“The negative consequences of this are not worth it. It's not in alignment with my integrity.”

Isn’t it my job as a parent to teach these things? Won’t this make me look bad as a parent?

This is not behavior training, which generally falls to the parents to reinforce. This is mindset training, which most parents haven’t even been taught! And, let’s face it, kids are so used to “tuning us out” (Pick up your shoes! Take out the garbage! Turn that video game off!) that even if you were to share these insights with them, most of it would likely go in one ear and out the other. Ever get that eye-roll from your child when you try to impart some wisdom? Sometimes it takes support from an outside mentor.

Can sessions be conducted remotely?

While in person provides a more conducive setting for practicing meditations and for doing projects, sessions can be conducted remotely over zoom if circumstances don't allow for in-person visits.

If remote sessions are conducted it is desirable for the child to have a quiet space using a computer (versus a phone) so that I may share my screen. They will also need a place where they will be undisturbed and away from household distractions, as meditation is one of the main components of our programs, which is best done in a quiet environment.

What does a typical session look like?

Each session will last for about one hour. The parent is welcome to do a quick check-in, then you will have some time to yourself while your child and I work through the lesson and activities.

Upon arrival, your child and I will spend about 5 minutes checking     in and reviewing concepts from the previous session.

Meditation and/or breathwork, energy balancing practice to get     the mind into a relaxed and receptive state.

    • Then we will read one of the stories, talk about it and how it     relates to their life.

Organize an activity to give them a hands-on experience.

The last 5 minutes of the session, the parent is invited to join us     for a review of what was learned and a WISDOM for Home sheet     will be sent home.

I am concerned it won’t work for my child.

The Adventures in Wisdom(TM) and Go Zen(TM) are proven systems, changing the lives of kids for many years, with loads of success stories. Using storytelling as a platform stimulates multiple centers of the brain, which leads to deeper learning and lesson retention. Stories are also a great way to initiate important conversations. Kids resonate with the characters and can relate to their thoughts and feelings.

What ages do you work with?

The methods and programs used work best for children ages 6-12. But, if your child is slightly outside of that age range, and you think the coaching program may be helpful to them, please reach out to discuss.
